This timeline of movies includes rather a lot of films, but it turns out that there is a fundamental problem with dating a film.

Do you use the date production started, or finished, or the copyright date (which varies by country). As there is no perfect answer, we will follow the same convention as Halliwell's Guide, and use the earliest release date that we can find.
