Stephen Lawrence was murdered this year, with a completely ineffectual police response which showed that there had been very little improvement since the murder of Kelso Cochrane in 1959 or the riots of 1981 and 1985.

Both the Debian and Slackware distributions of Linux were created this year.

The project was started this year, with the aim of getting windows 3.11 programs to run outside windows.

There were also some books and movies created this year.
