Stories; Life-Line by Robert A Heinlein (1939)

Life-Line starts with Doctor Hugo Pinero addressing a meeting of a science academy about his discovery of a method of predicting the precise time of death of a person. It very rapidly turns out that he was not invited by the scientists of the body, and that they have already decided against him before hearing the evidence.

Then the insurance company who arranged the invite try and get a restraining order to try and stop him from predicting the times of death of his clients, because it is costing them a lot of money....
