Timeline; 1996

A planet hunter called Debra Fischer, while studying Upsilon Andromidae from the Lick observatory in 1996 found that it was being orbited by at least 3 planets, all gas giants. After a lot of checking, this was announced in 1998. This is the first multi planet system found other than our own Solar System.

The Linux kernel reached 2.0, and linux adopted the penguin "tux" as it's mascot.
